The Anglo American Lightning Organisation (AALO) was incorporated in 1999 by Andrew Brodie, Jon Roth, Phil Wallis, and Max Waldron. Since 2017, Lee Scargall has been appointed project champion, and in 2022 Bill Leahy joined the team as the commercial director.
For a number of years we have been working towards returning to flight an English Electric Lightning T.5, XS422. The operation has been taking place at Stennis International Airport in Mississippi, USA, where the rebuild of Lightning422 is well underway. The project is manned by professional engineers who selflessly give up their time to return the aircraft to flight.
In May 2017, Lightning422 taxied for the first time in 30 years, and did it again in 2018. In 2019, we went one step further and fast taxied down Stennis International's runway. During 2020/21, our operations were impacted by COVID19, but hopefully the team will transition to full-time employees in 2023, as we intensify our efforts with the restoration phase.
